VITON XIII · Chypre perfume

Chypre perfume,with fruit up front.

A chypre rests on bergamot at the start and oakmoss at the end. GELO keeps that frame and fills it with apple, blackcurrant and pineapple.

What is a chypre perfume, and how is GELO one?

A chypre is a family that opens with bergamot and rests on oakmoss. GELO follows it with a twist: apple, blackcurrant and pineapple come first, then birch brings tar and smoke, and the fruit stops leading. Oakmoss is what lets the finish read as a chypre. It is Eau de Parfum, 50 ml, with a 2 ml sample to wear before you break the seal.

The chypre in the line

Is this chypre yours?

  1. 1

If you enjoy pineapple in a perfume

Pineapple and apple lead GELO, with blackcurrant and bergamot close behind. The fruit is what sets it apart from a classic chypre.

  2. 2

    If you enjoy smoke

Birch gives tar and smoke, with juniper and jasmine in the mix. The turn from fruit to smoke is the point of the fragrance.

  3. 3

If you have never worn a chypre

Oakmoss makes it read as a chypre; vanilla and ambergris are among its notes too. Try the kitchen test first, then the sample.

Smell it first

Each 50 ml bottle arrives sealed with a 2 ml sample of the same fragrance, and a sealed bottle can be returned within 14 days of delivery.

How smelling first works

Chypre perfume, answered

What does chypre mean?

Chypre names a perfume family with a bergamot opening over an oakmoss base. Perfumers use the word for that structure.

Why is there pineapple in a chypre?

Pineapple, with apple and blackcurrant, makes this chypre fruity. Then birch carries it toward tar and smoke, and that is where the fruit ends.

Is GELO a men's perfume?

It is labelled for him. A chypre has no gender in itself, so wear it if the notes appeal to you.

How do I test a chypre without a tester?

Do the kitchen test on the GELO page, then wear the 2 ml sample that arrives with the sealed 50 ml bottle. A bottle with its seal intact can go back within 14 days of delivery.
